A: Our students come from a wide range of experiences. We have recent high school graduates, mother’s returning to work or looking for supplemental, part-time income. Many are full time or part time employees. Still others are looking for a career change to a nurturing, caring environment.
Q: What Will I Learn?
A: Massage Therapists are usually trained in a variety of techniques. The most common of these techniques include Swedish American, sports massage, deep tissue, acupressure, chair/office massage, aromatherapy, and reflexology. There are many therapeutic techniques as well as spa techniques from which to choose from.
You will learn anatomy, physiology and pathology as it is relevant to massage therapy treatment and soft-tissue injuries.
Proper body mechanics for the therapist are always stressed in our classes to help you avoid injury.
Q: Where Do Massage Therapists Work?
A:There are many avenues to choose from when deciding where you want to practice. Spas, chiropractors’ or doctors’ offices, sports teams, resorts, cruise ships, salons, and corporate chair massage are just some of the choices you have. Many Massage Therapists choose to own their own practice.
Q: How Much Can a Massage Therapist Expect to Earn?
A: Hourly rates for massage and bodywork sessions range from $25 to $120 per hour depending upon the setting. Full time practitioners who are self employed can earn as much as $40,000 to $60,000 per year depending on how many hours per week you work and where you practice. Most Massage Therapists work on a part-time basis, less than 20 hours per week with the median income of $32,000 depending on their experience. Another factor determining earnings is where you work. If you work at a spa or in a doctor’s office, you will often be paid on a percentage basis.
